Had One, Got Another - Have been using this adapter on a desktop pc with windows XP and the standard extension cable for over a year with no problems. Installed the software on two desktops and it worked fine with both, talking to the netgear router it came bundled with. Since we upgraded to WPA encryption, I needed to purchase another for a second desktop machine, as the old card couldn t support higher encryption. After much deliberation, I opted again for this adapter. I ve just plugged it straight in with the existing software from the previously purchased adapter and its working fine. It sounds like the more recent problems people have had are because of drivers. I ve not had that because I m using the software I installed about 18 months ago, rather than the software that is still in the new box. Unfortunately I was a little more restricted in purchase, as not many adapters state whether they support WPA encryption. A lot just support WEP. This one, however, does support it.
The most horrible failure of a product I ve purchased online - This product is terrible and does not work. Speaking to Netgear support, they told me the product must not be compatible with my various fresh builds of Windows XP MCE.So, Netgear know and admit that this product doesn t work in a good percentage of the time but they don t care. Do not buy under any circumstances.I have it trying to connect to my netgear router 5 yards away and it constantly loses it s connection, even though other computers show a good signal, at even greater distance from the router.DO NOT BUY.
Complete waste of time and money - Absolutely terrible. Does not work under Vista, works for about 20 minutes then stops under XP. Spent ages dealing with Netgear support who could only recommend reinstalling Vista in its entirety!! Buy this product at your own risk.
Beware - this product is very unreliable! - I have soldiered on trying to get a stable connection on my desktop PC using this product and a Netgear DG834GT router for months, as I was unsure what causing the connection to fall over. Sometimes it fell over in minutes, sometimes in hours, but each time required me to switch the PC off completely and restart. The Netgear Helpdesk were not very helpful, and their suggested fixes and those suggested on this forum did not solve the problem. After recently purchasing a new laptop, it became apparent that the router is fine, and the WG111T USB Adapter is the problem. I now have an Edimax EW-7318USG Wireless USB LAN Adapter 4dBi Antenna, 802.11b.g 54Mbps installed, and although not the fastest, it is very stable (so far!) In fairness, I never got more than 54 Mbps out of the Netgear adapter anyway... Beware - this product is very unreliable!
Absolutely terrible - As many, many others have found - take a look at the Netgear forums - this product will freeze your pc and drop connectivety constantly. Be warned. Do not buy.
